How to help your child prepare for the second school semester?

By Ms Koh

Time flies and school is starting again really soon. Time to iron your uniforms and pack your school bags! How can we get ourselves ready for Term 3 and 4?

1. Switch on “school mode”

Take a few moments to transition your child’s mind and body into “school mode” again. Be it adopting a more routined sleep-wake cycle or cutting down on the Netflix and/or gaming, take small steps to align yourself physically and mentally to the demands of school again.

2. Communicate common goals and targets

To help your child cope with the anxiety of starting a new school, one good exercise is to sit down together and do a review of how they have done so far, and then set goals and targets together. This helps to boost your child’s confidence, knowing that he or she is not alone in this. Communicate expectations and take the opportunity to ask your child if there is anything that you can do to help, be it enhancing the study environment, or getting external help.

3. Never too late to work hard

Some students may panic as they realise that we are 3-4 months away from the End of Year examinations. Well, we like to think that it is never too late to work hard, as long as you put your heart and soul to it. If you have yet to make study notes, make them now. If you have not sought help for your weak topics or subjects, seek help now.

“My father used to say that it’s never too late to do anything you wanted to do. And he said, ‘You never know what you can accomplish until you try.” Michael Jordan

While we are no Michael Jordan, we cannot help but emphasise that it is really never too late. It is amazing what determination and hard work can achieve, and we have seen that in many of our students at Learning Sphere. Speak to us at Learning Sphere to find out more!
